Virtual Global Taskforce wins award for online safety
23 February 2006
The Virtual Global Taskforce today won the Internet Watch Foundation Award for the most innovative development in online safety.
Jim Gamble, Deputy Director General of the National Crime Squad for England and Wales and Chair of the Virtual Global Taskforce, said:
"Online child abuse must and will be tackled and I am delighted that the Virtual Global Taskforce has received this recognition. We greatly value our partnership with the Internet Watch Foundation and look forward to building on that partnership as we move forward here in the UK with the launch of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre in April this year."
Nominees for the award were compiled from recommendations by the Internet Watch Foundation. Other nominees included Get Safe Online, UK Children Go Online, Know It All and Parentscentre.
The award was presented as part of the annual UK Internet Services Providers' Assocation (ISPA) Awards. These herald the best of the Internet industry and celebrate innovation and best practice. These awards are particularly unique as they are given to people and organisations in the industry by their peers and reflect the broad nature of the service provider sector.
