Safer Internet Day 2012
Today marks Safer Internet Day; an Insafe initiative celebrated every February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world.
VGT Chair and AFP Assistant Commissioner Neil Gaughan said building awareness is the best weapon for online security.
“Internet crimes, especially those involving children, are increasing at an unprecedented rate,” Assistant Commissioner Gaughan said.
“Today is a timely reminder to be aware of the risks associated with online technology and how to manage these risks.”
Safer Internet Day is organised by Insafe of the European Union each year in February and is globally recognised.
The theme for this year’s Safer Internet Day is “Connecting generations and educating each other”, where users young and old are encouraged to discover the digital world together…safely”!
