A second US Based Children’s Organisation joins the Global Effort to Eliminate Online Child Sexual Exploitation
The Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) welcomes the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) alliance, as part of the ongoing fight against child exploitation. NCMEC is the second private sector partner to join the VGT, following the footsteps of its sister organisation, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children who joined in May 2011.
By joining the VGT as an industry partner, NCMEC will demonstrate their commitment to helping reduce the threat to children online.
Chair of the VGT Neil Gaughan, said that the VGT recognises that the fight against online child sexual exploitation can not be undertaken by law enforcement alone.
As a partner of the VGT, NCMEC will provide operational support to law enforcement in each VGT country including making CyberTipline referrals available to VGT countries and will assist with victim identification in the US. NCMEC will also continue to play a critical role in the US by assisting VGT law enforcement agencies to identify child victims depicted in sexually abusive images.
“Online child sexual exploitation transcends national borders and requires a coordinated global response, “said Ernie Allen, NCMEC’s President. “That is why we are proud to become a partner of the VGT alliance, and commit our energy and support to these global law enforcement leaders.”
Members of the VGT include the Australian Federal Police, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (UK), the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (Royal Canadian Mounted Police), US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Italian Postal and Communication Police Service, INTERPOL, the Ministry of Interior for the United Arab Emirates, the New Zealand Police and Europol.
